Dermatology at the American University of Beirut dates back to the early 1890Ìs when the subject of the skin and its diseases was taught by Dr. Charles L. Bliss. Later, Dr. Charles A. Welster, and still later on, Dr. Walter B. Adams took charge of the specialty. Modern dermatology began with the late Dr. Hrant J. Chaglasian.
In 1960, with three full-time faculty members, dermatology was made a division in the Department of Internal Medicine. That same year, a state-of-the-art dermatology research laboratory was established.
