Over the years, NBC 6's Diana Gonzalez has reported on a plethora of cosmetic procedures.

While she loves the thought of looking younger, Gonzalez said she personally avoids needles and knives. But after turning 50 years old recently, Gonzalez is facing reality.

She went to the University of Miami's Cosmetic Center, where doctors used the TruVU system, which uses special filters and polarized light, to reveal sun damage to her skin and other annoying signs of aging.

Dr. Wendy Lee recommended Gonzalez try a new use for the Fraxel laser, which stimulates collagen production.

"It decreases the fine wrinkles and creepiness of the fine wrinkles of the upper and lower lids," Lee said. "It tightens the tissue around the eyelids and decreases dark circles."

But for optimal results, you need three to six treatments one month apart, and there is some downtime.

"You will finish the procedure and be beefy red and swollen on your upper and lower lids for an average of two to three days for patients," Lee said.

But that wasn't an issue for Marge Eisenberg after her second treatment.

"I'm going to a hockey game tomorrow," she said.

TruVU zeroed in on her results.

"And you see the fine wrinkling and it's smoothed out today," Lee said.

While the laser treatment is something to consider, Gonzalez decided to take beauty expert Bobbi Brown's advice for looking better after 50.

"Dark, dark lipstick only works with someone with dark lips. So, dark lipstick is really aging and not pretty," Brown said. "Over frosted lipstick is not pretty. That doesn't work."

At a presentation at the AARP expo, Brown made it clear she's not a fan of plastic surgery.

"I happen to like the way women look better without it," she said.

Brown has developed a "makeup facelift" in four simple steps. Gonzalez put it to the test at Bloomingdale's Bobbi Brown Cosmetic Counter.

"Uou have to brighten under your eyes with concealer," Brown said. "You have to even out your skin and maybe wear bronzers or bronzing gels to make you look healthy. Define anything that has lost definition, and pop with color. Those things will make all the difference."
