Japanese Society for Laser Dentistry
The relationship of dentistry and lasers goes back to the time when Stern and Sognnaes first used a Ruby laser for transpiration of enamel and dentine in 1964. A quarter of a century after that, in 1989, the former body of JSLD was founded in Osaka, Japan. At first, the society was called Japan Laser Dentistry Study Group and subsequently having held three meetings of the Study Group, it was developed into the Japanese Society for Laser Dentistry (JSLD) in the fourth meeting in 1992 (Table 1).
