Plastic surgery is a multi-million dollar industry that's growing more popular by the day, but going under the knife just isn't an option for some people.
Instead, they're looking to put their best face forward with a little help from lasers.
On the cover of a magazine itĚs a picture perfect image of smooth silky skin, but let's face it this is an airbrushed dream.
Sun damage, acne, deep lines and wrinkles are common skin problems that add years to your look. It brings both men and women to the crossroads to grow old gracefully, or fight it every step of the way.
For those waging war in the anti-aging battle, there's a new weapon on deck. The Fraxel is the newest laser on the market and Dr. Toni Frederick owns the only one in West Virginia. She says it works wonders.
"It's used for wrinkles. ItĚs used for melasma. It's used for brown spots, age spots, stretch marks, acne scarring, scars from surgery," Dr. Frederick said.
Results are within about two hours. Instead of treating the top layer of skin, the Fraxel delves deeper by healing from the inside out.
This laser can wipe away years of damage in just a few short weeks. There are minimal side effects and less downtime than surgery.
"This will help you look 10-15 years younger. If you want to look 20 to 30 years younger, you're going to have to go to a plastic surgeon," Dr. Frederick said.
It can't fix everything, like weak muscles in the neck. The Fraxel only treats the skin. The cost is about $3,000 for a standard course of treatment and even though your face is numbed with cream and the doctor prescribes medication, there is a little bit of pain.
The Fraxel is turning back the hands of time through brand new technology thatĚs helping patients put their best faces forward.
The Fraxel laser just came on the market last spring and has amazing results. As always, if you don't wear sunscreen each and every day, even in the winter, you'll end up right back where you started.
