T. AUGUSTINE, FL -- As people age their cells stop producing as much collagen and elastin. Those are the two elements that keep skin firm, wrinkle free and looking young.
A year and a half ago, Peggy Moore was unhappy with her skin. "The skin tended to droop, especially in the area around the jaws," says Moore. "I think it really showed my age."
But there is a way to help your cells produce more collagen and elastin which reduce wrinkles and firm skin. The treatment is called Photo Rejuvenation. And it's done using only a red light.
Also know as LED Therapy, the treatment is not new but has recently become popular. The technician holds a red and infrared light close to the skin moving positions every 90 seconds. There is no heat from the light.
Summer Perry, the owner of the Summer Skin Institute, says the red lights reach the skin cells and trigger them to produce more collagen and elastin.
"It's a regular healing light that helps to stimulate the cells and over 7 to 10 days it promotes collagen," says Perry. She says the first thing people notice is their face looks moisturized. Then the face will start to look tighter and lifted.
Moore went to the Summer Skin Institute in St. Augustine looking to firm her skin and look younger. She says it works. "It's over all younger looking," says Moore.
Perry started doing that treatments on herself and swears by them. "I like it because I haven't aged in the last six years," says Perry. The treatments helped her go from stage three Rosacea to stage one. "I get compliments everyday on my skin."
LED Therapy has also been used by doctors to help heal burn victims. It can also be used to help reduce the bacteria that causes acne and reduce redness.
The treatments at the Summer Skin Institute are about $60 each. Perry says a new client needs to do about six treatments each seven to ten days apart. After that, she recommends one treatment every three weeks.
Summer Skin Institute is located in Harbor Island at 1301 Plantation Island Drive, Suite 205B, St Augustine, FL 32080. For more information call (904) 377-7092
